What is canyoneering or canyoning?
Canyoning (known as canyoneering in the U.S.) is traveling in canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling (rappelling), and swimming.
Canyoning (Canyoneering) and Climbing the Osmena Peak are two of the most memorable and adventurous adrenaline-pumping activities Cebu has to offer. Canyoning particularly in Kanlaob River of Alegria to Kawasan Falls of Badian has become popular among adventure-seekers wanting to experience a new adventure after it was featured in a travel TV show “Biyahe ni Drew” hosted by actor Drew Arellano.
This activity involves climbing uphill slopes, river trekking, jumping off the waterfalls, swimming the natural fresh water pools, and sometimes requires rappelling.
The downstream canyoneering activity will start from Brgy. Kanlaob, Alegria and ends at Kawasan Falls in Brgy. Matutinao, Badian. We need to ride a motorcycle (habal-habal) to reach the starting point. It takes 3 to 4 hours to reach Kawasan Falls. A larger group would need more time.
What to wear?
Clothes with quick dry material are recommended, as you’ll be sweating and may get wet. Shorts or leggings, wet suits or rash guards & aqua shoes, boots or running shoes are fine. Bring some extra clothes and towel to change. We’ll provide the safety gears: Helmet, Life Vest, and Rappelling Rope.
